The Symbio Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) is our latest project to improve our laboratory quality processes; offering convenient automated temperature and moisture readings for sensitive equipment, combined with powerful alert, monitoring and review procedures.
Our EMS collects regular readings from sensors installed in sensitive equipment throughout the laboratory; including fridges, freezers, ovens and incubators; as well as general environmental readings. These readings are compiled into a central processing system which logs each result against the configured device, provides realtime alerts for exceedances which could jeopardise the quality of our testing, and enforces regular staff review and record-keeping procedures to ensure all departments and staff meet our quality expectations.
The fully integrated Symbio EMS will significantly improve our operational efficiency and play a key role in ensuring our laboratory’s compliance with TGA licensing and NATA accreditation.
Developed in-house by Symbio QA and IT teams
The EMS was developed in-house by the Symbio Quality Assurance and Information Technology teams, working closely with our laboratory teams for design, implementation and feedback for ongoing day-to-day use of the system.
- Lab-centric design; the system serves the quality needs for our demanding laboratory environment
- Custom software developed by our IT team; suitable for on-premise or cloud installation.
- Uses off-the-shelf hardware for sensors and reading devices
- Sensors connect to EMS software package via WiFi data connection with customisable reading intervals (from < 5 minutes to > 1 hour)
- Devices are configured with acceptable temperature ranges, allowing for real-time email or SMS alerts of detected exceedances
- Mandatory daily monitoring workflow for Symbio laboratory technicians; enforced by warnings to QA or management teams
- Secure web portal for realtime and historical data views, and system configuration by nominated administrators
- Software developed and tested to meet high validation standards
