Let’s get started

Food Shelf-Life and Challenge Testing

Symbio Laboratories conducts thousands of tests each week, with shelf life testing being one of the most requested.

Shelf life testing helps determine the time frame during which food products remain acceptable for human consumption or for retail display.

This testing also helps us understand the storage conditions necessary to maintain product safety, quality, and efficacy, so it is enormously important for both businesses and consumers.

Why is shelf life testing necessary?

Shelf life testing is needed because food cannot be kept forever. After a certain amount of time it will deteriorate and at this time will no longer be safe to eat. This also applies to drugs, drinks and other consumable products.

Depending on region and country, a best before, use by or freshness date is required on packaged perishable foods. A product that has passed its shelf life might still be safe, but quality may no longer be guaranteed.
